A review by accountancy specialists Grant Thornton of Tandridge District Council’s 2020/21 budget setting process has found an error over pension costs which has left an annual £920,500 gap in the Council's finances.
The review found that Independent Councillor Kevin Bourne (now Deputy Leader of the Council) had correctly flagged up the problems with the budget at the time in February 2020 on several occasions. Unfortunately, his warnings were not listened to.
The review was commissioned in June after the gap in the budget was discovered. Grant Thornton’s report was published at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Strategy and Resources Committee which can be viewed on the Council's webcast.
