A recent consultation by Oxted Parish Council and Limpsfield Parish Council about the installation of CCTV cameras in Oxted and Hurst Green has resulted in an overwhelming “yes” to the project.
The proposal is to install CCTV first in Station Road East and West, with the shops in Hurst Green and Master Park following on as two subsequent phases as a deterrent to crime and anti-social behaviour - in June last year, the police had to use dispersal orders in Oxted town centre to combat ASB, crime and disorder.
It’s a joint project backed by the two Parish Councils, Tandridge District Council, Oxted BID (Business Improvement District) and the Master Park Trustees. Oxted Parish Council is kindly considering providing the bulk of the funding with contributions from the BID and Limpsfield Parish Council.
There were 754 responses to the consultation and of those 712 were in favour, 39 were against and 3 gave no opinion.
The next stage is for Oxted Parish Council to invite tenders for the equipment.
