Oxted South, Tandridge District Council by-election on 1 May
We are delighted to say that Mark Stringer is standing for election for the Oxted & Limpsfield Residents Group in a by-election for the Oxted South ward on 1st May. The by-election is being held because OLRG’s Councillor Chris Langton, who has represented the ward for six years, is moving away from the area.
Mark, who is standing for election for the first time, has lived with his family in Broadham Green for sixteen years and works as a senior lecturer at Birkbeck, University of London.
He said: “I would be delighted to have the opportunity to fill this role and, if elected, I aim to put the same amount of energy and drive as Chris has into working for your interests. “My priorities include working to tackle anti-social behaviour, standing up against inappropriate development to protect the character and community feel of our area, taking planning enforcement action where necessary, ensuring more affordable and council housing provision and improving infrastructure.”
If elected, Mark would join the other two Tandridge District Councillors for Oxted South, OLRG's Deb Shiner and Bryan Black, in representing the ward.
As you know, the government intends to abolish district and borough councils in England in a major shake-up of local government. This includes Tandridge District Council. But until that happens, it is crucial to keep fighting for the best for our community and to work to set in place the best way forward for the future.
If you have any questions for Mark, he can be contacted by emailing: mrmarkstringer@outlook.com
