We are pleased to say that CCTV is now live in Oxted and Hurst Green. It is a community-based system that aims to deter and reduce crime and antisocial behaviour.
The project has been led by Oxted Parish Council who are the operator of the system. Surrey Police will have direct access to the system to retrieve images and footage for evidence. They will also be able to view live images from the cameras.
Hurst Green Community Centre has joined the project providing cameras that cover the Hurst Green Community Centre. Master Park has also joined the project with cameras in the park and more cameras to come when the new Hub, that is taking shape in the park, is completed. Limpsfield Parish Council has joined the project with a camera outside Tandridge District Council Offices.
The project has been funded by Oxted Parish Council with contributions from Oxted Business Improvement District (BID/Love Oxted) and Limpsfield Parish Council. The project was initiated by Oxted & Limpsfield Residents Group following the use of dispersal orders by the Police a few years ago. A report on crime in Oxted by the Police was an important input to the project. Other groups involved in the project are Tandridge District Council, Surrey Police, Oxted Electrical and Raven Homes. Chroma Vision Limited has supplied and installed the system. They will also maintain the system.
Great care has been taken to follow the Information Commissioner's and Government guidelines on the operation of a video surveillance system. Before you enter an area covered by the cameras you will have passed a sign advising that CCTV is in use. The signs have been produced by Royal British Legion Industries.
It is through these communities coming together that this initiative has been possible.
